3 Feet High And Rising -
De La Soul

Album cover for 3 Feet High And Rising by De La Soul

Rating: Fun ride

Notes: I really like this album not only because of its importance, but also its attitude. It isn’t afraid to be weird, silly and sometimes downright stupid. It gives off a very warm feeling, like just a bunch of friends goofing around, and it’s very infectious! I love the silly skits during the album and the songs. I would really love to get this physically, but I’ll have to find a censored copy. I'm sorry, I don't think I can handle De La Orgee again lol.

Standouts:
  • Can U Keep a Secret
  • Tread Water
  • Me Myself and I

Sound of Silver - LCD Soundsystem

Album cover for Sound of Silver by LCD Soundsystem

Rating: Unexpected Gem

Notes:I listened to their self titled album before and it never really gelled with me, but this one really did. Maybe I'll have to re-listen to it... Anyways, great album. I found myself coming back to it multiple times when I didn't know what to lsiten to but still wanted something on. I had a really hard time picking the standouts since all of them are of the same great quality I won't be surprised if I like it even more the next time that I revisit it. Oh also the MV of New York, I love You But(...) has to be the funniest twist ending I've seen, one of my favourite music videos. Maybe I should make a blog post on my favourite music videos...

Standouts:
  • Get Innocuous!
  • All My Friends
  • New York, I Love You but You're Bringing Me Down

Cracker Island - Gorillaz

Album cover for Cracker Island by Gorillaz

Rating: The only Gorillaz album I consider mid

Notes:mid. Sorry Greg Kurstin but, i'm not a fan of your work on this album. Feels like it gives up on the theming at the middle of the tracklist. Could’ve been better, it is growing on me a bit though. I also think there are too many consecutive slow songs at the beginning, which ruins the pacing a lot. Also people are way to mean on Tormenta, its a pretty good song! Also also, I think I'm not the only one who think Captain Chicken is peak and should've been on the main tracklist. I sounds like if Superfast Jellyfish was on Demon Days.

Standouts:
  • New Gold
  • Tarantula
  • Captain Chicken

Song Machine - Gorillaz

Album cover for Song Machine by Gorillaz

Rating: Sophisticated cloud

Notes: It just... makes me happy. Which was what I needed after listening to The Now Now. I love every song and its slowly becoming my favourite album even if it shouldn’t cos it's technically isn't an album. Watched it episodically first and then listened to the actual album on CD, it was really fun. I got the deluxe CD without knowing and it was one of the best accidental purchases of my life. Opium is literally one of my favourite songs ever. Oh also, How Far would be a great track for a Sorry To Bother You fan-mv. Really sad that season 2 (if it even existed) got cancelled though :(

Standouts:
  • Désolé
  • Momentary Bliss
  • Opium

The Now Now - Gorillaz

Album cover for The Now Now by Gorillaz

Rating: Emotional breakdown /10

Notes: the 3rd listen broke me. Will write more about this album another day. I have never related to a piece of media EVER before this album. I look back and see literal foreshadowing in my life that leads up to me listening to this. I described the album when finishing my first listen as a painted little picture and I still find that very fitting. To be continued one day...

Standouts:
  • Kansas
  • Sorcererz
  • Souk Eye

Plastic Beach - Gorillaz

Album cover for Plastic Beach by Gorillaz.

Rating: A hair from greatness

Notes: It just feels like there's something missing... which makes sense haha. Pirate Jet didn’t feel like an ending track and that really bothered me first listen. I grew to like it more but I still feel like there's a piece missing for it to be great. Oh yeah, they should've played Pirate's Progress fully for the intro, would've made it peak. Leitmotifs babyyyyyyyy.

Standouts:
  • Pirate's Progress
  • Broken
  • Sweepstakes

D-Sides - Gorillaz

Album cover for D-Sides by Gorillaz.

Rating: Shouldn't be this good

Notes: The fact that a B-SIDE album could be this good is crazy to me. When listening to it, I imagine a story of someone who's trying to find meaning and joy in life again after being swallowed by the mundanity and fakeness of it all. You can hear that a lot in tracks like Rockit, The Swagga and Hongkongaton. How everything for this person is just mush noise (L'Étranger ass album, lmao). Gives me that vibe.

Standouts:
  • We Are Happy Landfill
  • The Swagga
  • Hong Kong

Demon Days - Gorillaz

Album cover for Demon Days by Gorillaz.

Rating: jaw dropping

Notes: trying not to say much since this is a logbook but WOW. Literally got chills at the end of it. Outstanding opening and ending. The middle was a bit too long on a re-listen tho. I’ll prolly write more about these albums somewhere else because I have a lot to say.

Standouts:
  • Last Living Souls
  • November Has Come
  • Don't Get Lost/Demon Days

G-Sides - Gorillaz

Album cover for G-Sides by Gorillaz.

Rating: wow their b-sides

Notes: very cool to listen to the alternate versions and cut songs. I was listening to these albums and consuming much of the media in chronological order so that was fun. Also Latin Simone eng+og is the best thing ever, sounds like a musical.

Standouts:
  • Latin Simone (English Version)
  • Ghost Train
  • The Sounder

Gorillaz - Gorillaz

Album cover for Gorillaz' self titled album.

Rating: oops! Epiphany!

Notes: fundamentally changed the way I view albums. This was the first album that I ever felt the urge of physically owning, which never happened before and kickstarted my cd collection. The Ibrahim Ferrer jumpscare was really nice. Not their best though, which makes sense. Thought it was similar to bullfrog, which I quickly found out why after.

Standouts: (I try not to include the famous ones in this category btw)
  • New Genious (Brother)
  • Latin Simone (Que Pasa Contigo)
  • Sound Check (Gravity)

Tin Drum - Japan

Album cover for Tin Drum by Japan.

Rating: mid

Standouts:
  • Ghosts
  • Canton
  • Visions of China

  • Come with me - puff daddy feat’ Jimmy Page
  • Deeper underground - jamiroquai

Enema of the state - blink 182

album cover for Enema of the State by Blink 182

Rating: blink 182 album /pos

Notes: Makes me feel like a rebellious white male teen in the 2000s fr fr.

Standouts:
  • Aliens exist (they say backrooms haha)
  • Anthem (reminds me of sqsqd now or never)

The Fall - Gorillaz

Album cover for The Fall by Gorillaz

Rating: so good I love

Notes: gets way too much slack for what it is. I actually thought it was better (album, structure-wise) than plastic beach. I’m a sucker for good transitions and I just, really like it. Blame Splatoon for conditioning me to unconventional music I guess.

Standouts:
  • Hillbilly Man
  • Detroit
  • Aspen Forest

Humanz - Gorillaz

Album cover for Humanz by Gorillaz

Rating: a real grower

Notes: did NOT know people hated this album this much. It’s really really good and I personally think it’s in par with Demon Days and Plastic Beach. I got the theme of the album 3 songs in without any prior knowledge. Now that’s good theming. Transitions are godly, ascension is an amazing opener and we got the power actually feels like an ending

Standouts:
  • Ascension
  • Submission
  • Charger

Let’s face it - The Mighty Mighty BossTones

Album cover of Let's Face It by The Mighty Mighty BossTones

Rating: good

Notes: very nice mood music, the singer is literally me

Standouts:
  • The Impression That I Get
  • Let's Face It
  • 128

Travelling without moving - jamiroquai

Album cover for Travelling Without Moving by Jamiroquai

Rating: funky fresh

Note: it’s THE jamiroquai album, of course I remember it! Mom has this one on CD so I’ll re-listen to it like that to refresh my memory

Standouts:
  • Alright
  • Drifting Along
  • Bonus Track

Hawaii part ii - miracle musical

Album cover for Hawaii Part ii by Miracle Musical

Rating: wow

Notes: amazing album, very concise, the Hawaii and past memories motif. Album construction is very good. Makes an amazing companion piece to pb (don’t get me started on the reasoning)

Standouts:
  • Black Rainbows
  • Labrynth
  • Sweet Dreams in Sea Major

Igor - Tyler, the creator

Album cover for Igor by Tyler, The Creator

Rating: amazing

Notes: One of the best non-g album I’ve listened to. I got that special « first time listening t o it and I need the cd right now » feeling. Amazingly constructed album, no criticisms. Love the story and its involvement within the song’s tones and lyrics, converted me into a Tyler fan.

Standouts:
  • IGOR'S THEME
  • A BOY IS A GUN*
  • GONE GONE/THANK YOU

Madvillany - Madvillan

Album cover for Madvillany by Madvillan

Rating: good

Notes: I liked it , feels like a sitcom but idk why. I’ll probably like it and appreciate it more on a second listen

Standouts:
  • Accordion
  • All Caps
  • Rhinestone Cowboy
Gorillaz MTV Cribs Reanimated
